Please explain "niceness"

Could someone please explain the niceness setting in TMUX.
I've been trying 19, and then nothing appears. -20 shows alot and seems to work.
But could someone explain the differences, maybe with screenshots

Values of +/-19 are rather excessive. +/-5 should be fine depending on what else is running and what you're trying to acheive.

You can think of it like the process priority in Windows.

New to Linux sadly enough..
