Announcements / Release 2018-12-03
« Last post by Wally73 on 2018-12-03, 11:33:40 PM » 2018-12-03
   * Improved accuracy of PreDb matching. Closes issue 2568.
   * Add pagination links in Browse Groups for Alpha, Charisma, Gamma, Gentele, and Omicron Themes.
   * Corrected categories table data for Book entries. This caused books (Comics, etc.) to be
    listed in the wrong subcategory.
   * New groups not respecting number of days/posts to initialise with and then starting from
the first header on the server. 2018-11-05
   * New anime title regex in PPA to capture more titles correctly.
   * Support for mediaInfo's new format in v17.12+

   * Renamed 'Complete Sequential' to 'Custom Sequential' in tmux settings, to avoid confusion of
people thinking it is more complete than Simple.

   * Make sure newly activated groups have TPG tables, if TPG mode is enabled and MGR mode is not.
   * Fix anime last updated check to correctly return if an update was attempted 'recently'.
   * Correct generic music regex to actually match the example.
   * Corrected counter on predb import daily script, so it no longer reports -1 remaining. 2018-10-02
   * Updated scripts in .../misc/testing/DB to use modern require_once syntax (instead of nesting
multiple dirname() calls. Also added a new require_once to two scripts that need
.../configuration/settings.php to run. Note they will cause an error if the file does not
exist, but it should be obvious to the user what the problem is.
If any other scripts are complaining about missing nZEDb_* or other constants let Niel know
and he'll update them as well.
Guides / Re: Announcing simply-nzedb (Defunct)

I've been tinkering on an update to this apparently "defunct" docker container.  It is working for me, all bells and whistles right up to the latest dev branch (although the container itself is currently set to  If someone wants to give it a shot, please let me know what isn't working out of the box and I'll tweak it.  You do need to follow the directions and i've likely forgotten a couple necessary ones so some beta testers would be appreciated.
I've sent a pull request to the original repository, but if they aren't interested in merging it you can find my fork at
Support / Re: Need to run update_binaries Otherwise the group is dead error

The easiest way to resolve this that I've found is to open the admin panel, under site settings choose groups and then view the group that's causing an issue.  I found that this occurred when the "First Record ID" (or maybe it's called Oldest Record in previous versions) was too low, which caused the program to assume there were no more releases earlier than that.

The solution is to make the "First Record" a later number.  If you haven't backfilled too much yet, set it to the "Last Record ID".  Hopefully it'll work then. Also, when you choose a new group don't immediately select backfill.  Wait for it to cycle for a bit as it updates the latest binaries and then choose backfill once it has established a first/last ID.
Support / Need to run update_binaries Otherwise the group is dead error

I have been getting an error "Error: You need to run update_binaries on a.b.ebook. Otherwise the group is dead, you must disable it."

I have (previously) already run the update_binaries against the newsgroup, but get nothing
Code: [Select]
bash-4.4# php update_binaries.php alt.binaries.ebook
Updating group: alt.binaries.ebook
Processing alt.binaries.ebook

Searching for an approximate article number for group alt.binaries.ebook 1 days back.
Found article #32265952 which has a date of Fri, 28 Sep 2018 11:52:25 -0500, vs wanted date of Fri, 28 Sep 2018 11:29:05 -0500. Difference from goal is -0 days.
No new articles for alt.binaries.ebook (first 32,265,952, last 32,265,952, grouplast 0, total 0)
Server oldest: 319 Server newest: 32,265,956 Local newest: 0

I have reset the group, and purged it, but it doesn't show up as being read in my group settings

Support / Re: Where do you need to signup for the Amazon API?

Its s huge pain in the butt.

You need to sign up for an associates account.

Supply a website that is fully functioning (no dead links/furnished pages)

Make a sale within 6 months using your associate tag, after your first sale they will start the review process.

Review process is when someone goes and reviews your website and then either passes or fails you.

After that is done (can take a week after your first sale for the review to happen) you can generate some keys.

NOTE I am SOL, as I was kicked out several times a few years ago because apparently B2B sales are against the TOS so if you are a consultant dont bother.
Regex / feel a little stupid
« Last post by jeremyrem on 2018-09-16, 05:31:13 PM »
I personally have to write a lot of regex a few times a week depending on what I am up too at work, and when I finally got around to attempting to write some for nZEDb, I spent maybe an hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't work on the testing page (never did get it to do anything but they work).

Long story short, I kept switching between a 2 testers, the mysqld cli, testing page, and one of my web scrappers I finally figured out that I wrote it for javascript not for pcre.

Feel pretty stupid now, even though for some reason the Release Naming Regex Test is not working for me (admin/release_naming_regexes-test.php?action=add).

Just glad I got it figured out, only if there was a way to add multiple different groups I would be really happy.
Guides / Re: HowTO: Install nZEDb on Ubuntu 16.0.4

Actually, the whole sequence in some areas are messed up. In step 9, you will use curl but later will be asked to install it. Same with the php7.0 installation, which was done earlier in the installation. Something is wrong here......

Code: [Select]
/var/log$ mysql_tzinfo_to_sql /usr/share/zoneinfo | mysql -u root mysql -p

doesn't work anymore. You have to use sudo on mysql now

Code: [Select]
/var/log$ mysql_tzinfo_to_sql /usr/share/zoneinfo | sudo mysql -u root mysql

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get –f install doesn't work if you copy & paste the code above, as the - is actually – which is not the same of course

Welcome to the nZEDb forums. We hope you will have a nice experience with both the indexing and forum.
General Talk / Hey everyone
« Last post by jeremyrem on 2018-09-12, 11:08:08 AM »
Just wanted to introduce myself.

Been running my own server for years now, and just got back into usenet maybe 6-7 months ago (using the free indexers and 1 paid).

Anyways, got sick of everyone one wanting money to look at subpar indexers (only few categories I am interested in games are a big one) and finally decided to roll my own, hence how I found this place.

Long story short, have been using nzedb for maybe the past week pretty successfully, still have a lot of stuff to fix on my end (a lot of titles don't rename that well, among a few other issues) that I am working on, but overall I am very happy with the software and the community.

Thanks for accepting my application for the forums and look forward to learning more
